NATCHEZ — The City of Natchez is seeking homeowners in need of help with house repairs.

The city is in its fourth year of helping residents sign up for assistance to make household repairs, including roof work, electrical, plumbing and various other repairs through the Special Needs Assistance Program (SNAP).

The city partners with Concordia Bank & Trust and Home Bank for the program.

The banks apply for the program sponsored by the Federal Home Loan Bank of Dallas. The money helps special needs households make health and safety repairs to houses at no cost to the homeowner.

The program has so far helped 83 homeowners make $401,000 in repairs in Natchez, Community Development Director James Johntson said.

“It’s been a very popular program, and we appreciate both banks working with the city to continue the program,” he said.

To be eligible for the program, a resident must be 55 or older, own their house, which is their primary residence. The house must be located within the city limits of Natchez.

Homeowners must also meet income limits, which are based on household size, and provide a copy of the deed to the house. Homeowners must agree to sign a five-year deed restriction, a program requirement.

SNAP worksheets can be picked up at the Department of Planning and Community Development on the second floor of Natchez City Hall, located at 124 S. Pearl St.

Worksheets will be reviewed on a first come, first served basis, with between 15 and 18 total applications submitted for funding consideration to the FHLB Dallas in early January.
