Ferriday aims to keep winning ways going against General Trass

Ferriday High School coach Dwight Woods said he is pleased with the way his squad has performed over the last several weeks.

The second-year coach has good reason to be.

The Trojans (4-2, 1-0) topped LHSAA Class 4A opponent Washington-Marion and district foe Rayville in consecutive weeks, and are now looking to make it three in a row Friday when they host General Trass.
“We’re in pretty good shape,” Woods said. “We’ve been able to throw the ball pretty well, and we’re playing pretty good up front on defense.”

The Panthers (0-6, 0-1) have struggled throughout the season, scoring just 12 points in their last five games.
Woods said while the General Trass offense hasn’t proven to be effective so far, he has been impressed with the way the team’s defense has performed, particularly in its 14-0 loss to Mangum High School last week.

Despite its struggles offensively, Woods said General Trass is still capable through the air, led by its electrifying athlete Bradrick Clemens.

“He’s as good any player in the district,” Woods said. “He can definitely play, and he’s a game breaker. They have a lot of good skill guys, but they’re young on the lines. Offensively, that’s the biggest issue with them.”

Woods said the key for his squad is to continue to find balance offensively and stop General Trass’ rushing game.

“If we do that, then we’ll be OK,” he said.

Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
