NATCHEZ — Adams County is under a burn ban that started Monday morning and is expected to last until at least Nov. 1, due to dry weather conditions.

Adams County Emergency Management Director Robert Bradford said the Great Mississippi River Balloon Race this weekend would not be impacted, as events such as the balloon glow are controlled fires.

“That is not a fire left unattended like people burning debris and walking off from it,” he said.

Bradford said charcoal grills and fire pits may only be used under constant supervision.

“If someone wants to do a barbecue, that’s fine, as long as you are observing it,” he said.

Bonfires must be coordinated through the emergency management office prior to the date of the event or on Halloween. Bradford said he wanted to know about bonfire events so the district volunteer fire department could be on standby.

“It is pivotal that we adhere to the current burn ban for the safety of Adams County residents and the first responders,” he said. “The ban will be lifted when weather conditions are suitable for burning outside debris/grass.”
