The Vidalia High School Vikings had no answer for Jena High School’s dynamic duo of Lamar Farris and Jaray Jenkins as the eighth-ranked Giants rolled to a 45-21 win Friday night in an LHSAA District 3-3A game.
Farris got the scoring started for Jena with a 1-yard touchdown run less than two minutes into the ball game. He also threw three touchdown passes – all of them to Jenkins and all of them in the first half.
Jenkins had a 5-yard touchdown reception in the first quarter and 27-yard and 59-yard touchdown catches in the second quarter. He also returned a Vidalia punt 55 yards for a touchdown early in the second quarter.
Vidalia got a 62-yard touchdown pass from Tristan Weatherly to Josh Pace with 22 seconds to go in the first quarter, but Jena responded when Trelon Jones returned the ensuing kickoff 92 yards for a touchdown. Weatherly was 8-for-17 passing for 88 yards.
The Vikings may have been down 42-7 at halftime, but they did not quit. Their defense played better in the second half and only allowed a 41-yard field goal by Craig Walker early in the fourth quarter.
Terry Brown had touchdown runs of 20 yards in the third quarter and five yards in the fourth quarter. He finished with 153 yards on 19 carries.
Vidalia (2-4, 0-3) hosts Buckeye High School for homecoming at 7 p.m. Friday.
