Saints welcome Tigers in MAIS showdown

The Trinity Episcopal and Centreville Academy football teams have found success in district matches this season.
Each squad currently boasts perfect marks in district action — 2-0 for Trinity and 3-0 for Centreville — but the two will step out of district Friday for a showdown in Natchez.
“I expect to see fast, big, speedy team that is versatile,” Centreville coach Robbie Isonhood said. “Trinity has some excellent athletes — their quarterback, running backs and a good offensive line — they have a lot of speed.”
Both teams enter Friday with momentum on their side. Trinity has won three of its last four games, while Centrevill has notched victories in four of its last five.
“I think the guys have been playing harder,” Isonhood said. “There are still some mistakes, but I think all in all, as long as we are seeing ourselves getting better each week, and we’ve done that.”
Isonhood said the key for his squad is to limit the damage caused by Trinity playmaker Kevontaye Caston and control the Saints’ potent rushing game.
“They do a great job of running straight downhill,” he said. “We have to be a little more physical than they are, and we’ve got to move the ball. We can’t stall out. That’s a must.”
Trinity coach Graham Roberts could not be reached for comment Wednesday.
Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Trinity.
