Delta Charter travels to face Tensas in district contest

Delta Charter High School is in the midst of a three-game stretch that is perhaps the toughest on its schedule.

DCS dropped back-to-back contests to district 2-1A foes Oak Grove and St. Frederick, and now attempts to get back on the winning track Friday night at Tensas (4-1, 1-1).

“We’re looking for a signature win,” DCS coach Zach Rogel said. “We didn’t get that win as a program last year. We know we’re improving and getting better, but we want to see it on paper now.”

The Storm (1-4, 0-2) are attempting to rebound from a 45-20 loss to St. Frederick last week in which DCS trailed at the half 38-6.

“We got humbled in the first half,” Rogel said. “But I thought our guys responded well. We scored some offensive points, forced some punts defensively and got a turnover on downs.”
Rogel said the key now is to take the momentum his team established in the second half and bring the same intensity to start Friday’s game.

“We need to start fast as opposed to waiting until we get down,” he said.

The first-year coach said the Panthers are “an athletic team that plays fast and aggressive.”

“They try to get the ball in their playmakers’ hands quickly,” Rogel said. “They get the ball to their speed guys on toss sweeps, vertical routes and in-and-outs with the outside receivers.

“We’re concerned about defending the things they like to do,” he said.

Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
