VIDALIA — Data from a Taser a former Concordia Parish Sheriff’s Office deputy’s is accused of using on his fiancée reportedly shows the device was fired on the evening of the alleged incident.
Victor Cass Butler, 34, 2071 Eleanor St., Vidalia, was charged with aggravated battery Sept. 17 following the alleged incident, which police have said involved some type of confrontation, on Sept. 16.
The Taser has a computer system that records the date and time of when the device was fired and how many times it was fired.
Vidalia Police Department Capt. Jack Fletcher said evaluation of the data shows the device was fired a couple of times on the night of the incident. The data indicates the Taser’s projectiles were not deployed, but rather the device’s trigger was pulled in “drive-stun” mode.
When a Taser is used in drive-stun mode, it is placed directly against the target without firing the projectiles.
The computer data, Fletcher said, does not provide police with information about who fired the Taser or whether the device actually made contact with a target.
The information will be turned over to the district attorney’s office, Fletcher said.
Butler was a CPSO deputy at the time of the alleged incident and was shortly thereafter placed on administrative leave. He resigned the day after the reported incident prior to being arrested.
