NATCHEZ — Services for Richard “Dip” Lee Lewis, 77, of Natchez, who died Thursday, Sept. 22, 2016, at Merit Health Natchez, will be 11 a.m. Friday at Union Baptist Church with the Rev. Joe W. Pickett officiating.
Burial will follow at Sunset New Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Marshall Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. today at the Natchez chapel and from 9 a.m. until service time Friday at the church.
Mr. Lewis was born Oct. 18, 1939, in Natchez, the son of Leonard Lewis Sr. and Sarah Coleman Lewis.
Dip was a faithful member of Union Baptist Church. He was an original member of the Deacons of Defense and Justice during the 1960s and the Black Farmers of America.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Margaret Lewis; one daughter, Jamie T. Lewis; and one brother, Leonard “Bae” Lewis Jr.
Survivors include one loving daughter, Gladys Yvette Lewis; three sons, James “Dude” Evans Jr., James “Fred” “Lil Dip” Evans Sr., both of Natchez, and Bobby Evans of Dallas; three grandchildren, Bobby Ray Evans Jr. of Fort Worth, Texas, Tytianna Y. Carter and Tylen Carter, both of Natchez; eight siblings, Peggy Lewis Scales and Tommy Lewis Sr., both of Natchez, Bertha Rose Lewis, Alice Lewis Farrow, Delores “Dee” McKnight, Patricia “Pat” LeBlanc, Rita Lewis and TJ Lewis, all of New Orleans; and a number of cousins, nieces, nephews, brothers and sisters-in-law, other relatives and treasured friends.
