CLINTON, La. — The Adams County Christian School and Cathedral High School softball teams each went 2-1 Saturday at the MAIS AAA South State Tournament to punch their tickets to next weeks state tournament.
ACCS beat Simpson Academy and Central Private, 3-0 and 11-0, respectively sandwiched around an 8-2 loss to Bowling Green.
“This feels great, real good,” ACCS coach Tate Lipscomb said. “We set out just wanting to be competitive in district, and now we’re in the state tournament. I’m very proud of the girls.
“The first game and last game, we were great. We just had a bad game in the middle.”
Cathedral, meanwhile, topped Centreville 6-5 in its opener, and then fell to Silliman 5-1 before rebounding to rout Columbia 12-2.
“The first game was a battle,” Cathedral coach Gary Blackwell said. “We came around in the end and were able to pull it out. It’s south state, so everyone is playing hard.”
Marty Lewis was the hero for the Lady Greenwave in the opener, as she delivered a clutch go-ahead run-scoring double that gave her squad the lead they were looking for.
South State Tournament play will continue at noon Monday as ACCS and Cathedral will in a loser’s bracket contest.
The game will determine state tournamnet seeding.
