NATCHEZ — The post-termination hearing for former Natchez-Adams School District Superintendent Frederick Hill concluded Friday and now goes to NASD school board members to vote.

Hill’s attorney Lisa Ross of Jackson called school board members Phillip West and Thelma Newsome as witnesses Friday.

Hill also testified in the hearing, board attorney Bruce Kuehnle said Friday afternoon.

The former superintendent was fired after being found liable in federal court for creating a racially hostile work environment for former West Elementary School principal Cindy Idom, who left her position with the school.

The court granted Idom a $668,000 judgment in September. Idom’s attorneys and the district ultimately settled for $625,000 in April. Much of that will be paid for through NASD’s insurance, but it will still cost the district approximately $127,500.

Friday’s hearing was a continuation of two previous hearings — the first on June 28 and the second on July 7. The third hearing was tentatively scheduled for late July, but was rescheduled because of scheduling conflicts.

School board members Amos James, Cynthia Smith, Benny Wright, Kuehnle and former school board president Timothy Blaylock testified at the earlier hearings.

With the hearings concluded, a transcript of the proceedings will be created and sent to board members, who will then vote in favor of Hill or not, board attorney Kuehnle said.

Depending on the outcome, Hill could be reinstated or receive back pay.

If the board does not vote in favor of Hill, the former superintendent can appeal the decision to chancery court.
