Matthew Burney accounted for 210 yards of total offense and three touchdowns as the Simpson Academy Cougars defeated Cathedral 24-0 in an MAIS District 4-AAA game and the Green Wave’s homecoming game.
Simpson Academy scored 17 points in the second quarter that put the game away. The Cougars scored again in the fourth quarter.
“Defensively, I thought we played well. We gave up a couple of big plays,” Cathedral head coach Chuck Darbonne said. “Offensively, we weren’t consistent enough. Had some penalties go against us.”
Even though the Green Wave didn’t score any points, Darbonne said he was pleased with the effort.
“They played their hearts out. They never quit,” he said.
Cathedral (2-4, 1-1) plays at Trinity Episcopal at 7 p.m. Friday.
