Help us save lives with afternoon tea

Enjoy an afternoon of entertainment while sipping tea with your family, friends and colleagues at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Natchez Grand Hotel. Admission is only $25. The event, the seventh annual “Hats And Gloves With Tea on The Mississippi” is sponsored by Edna B. and Joyce Fay Washington Breast Cancer Foundation Inc. One-hundred percent of the proceeds from this event will remain in the Miss–Lou.
This year’s theme, “Poetry In Motion,” will feature local talent in the areas of arts and letters. And in celebration of the Natchez Tricentennial, there will be snippets from the life of Mrs. Sarah Mazique, and her husband August Mazique. The Mazique’s acquired a tremendous amount of property following the Civil War and it is believed that they owned nearly half of Natchez.
Washington Breast Cancer Foundation was organized in October 1994 in New Orleans by Joyce Fay Washington Ivery with the initial desire to provide free breast prosthesis for medically underserved women. Since that time, the foundation has continued to grow and has continued to provide services to underinsured and medically underserved women.
Once in the Natchez area, the Foundation continued to survive and thrive. In December 2011 “Journey To Save A Life” was initiated. With the expressed support from Merit Health Natchez and Radiology Associates of Natchez the Foundation is able to provide free mammograms and free sonograms to women in the Miss-Lou. To date, the Foundation has provided 70 mammograms and 20 sonograms.
If you or someone you know needs a mammogram, the process is very simple! First, schedule an appointment with your health care provider. Second, once it is determined by medical personnel that a mammogram is needed, you will be referred to Merit Health Natchez. Third, the procedure will be scheduled and completed. Merit Health Natchez will send a bill to the foundation and a check will be forwarded for services rendered. You have completed the journey to save your life.
With your support Washington Breast Cancer Foundation can at least double the number of women served in the subsequent 12 months. Can we count you in?
