Wilkinson County Christian Academy baseball coach and assistant football coach Mac Newcomb is slated to be inducted into the University of Arkansas-Monticello Hall of Fame.
Newcomb starred at Arkansas-Monticello from 1986-1988, where he helped guide the school to a 10-2 record as a free safety in 1988, the school’s only 10-win season.
“It’s surreal at this point,” Newcomb said. “It’s an honor. You don’t think about these things when you’re playing; you’re just enjoying playing ball with your friends.”
The 1988 UAM defense held opponents to less than 13 points per contest.
Newcomb tallied 15 interceptions for his career, including five in 1988, and was named honorable mention NAIA All-American and a first team All-Arkansas Intercollegiate Conference pick.
The induction ceremony will take place Oct. 20 in Monticello, Ark.
