Sicily Island head coach Curtis Shavers said his team showed a lot of competitiveness and effort in the Tigers’ 22-0 loss to Arcadia last Friday night.
The only thing they didn’t do well was put points on the board when they had their chances.
Now Sicily Island turns its attention to the LHSAA District 2-1A portion of its schedule when it hosts undefeated Tensas High School at 7 p.m. Friday.
“What we liked about (last game)is that we had a better team effort. Guys showed up to play,” Shavers said. “The game was very competitive from our standpoint. A game that we felt pretty good about.”
Shavers said his team could have scored when the Tigers had first-and-goal from the 3-yard line and on a couple of other opportunities when they were near the red zone.
When it comes to Tensas High School, Shavers said his team will have to contain the speed and quickness that the Panthers’ skill players possess.
“You cannot underestimate their speed. They don’t have a lot of depth, but those players with speed, they try to target them,” Shavers said.
Shavers said the keys to success for his team will be playing like it did offensively and defensively against Arcadia, and taking advantage of scoring opportunities.
