NATCHEZ — It was a warm and windy Saturday for golf at the first round of the 2011 Spring Pilgrimage Four-Ball at Beau Pré Country Club. And the scores reflected it.
Dan Bland and Tom Matthews shot an 8-under-par 64 to take a one-shot lead over the team of Grady Brame and Gayle Sanchez in the championship flight.
Marc Noel and Cade Hebert are just two shots off the lead at 6-under-par 66 and several other teams are still in contention.
Four teams are tied for the lead in the first flight at 2-under-par 70. Among them are Richard Criswell and John Guessfield as well as Keith West and David Sinclair. The team of Travis Hebert and Dustin Harris is just one shot back at 1-under-par 71.
It was so windy on Saturday that only 25 of the 74 two-man teams participating in this year’s event shot even-par 72, or better.
The weather on Sunday is expected to be much cooler and a lot less windy.
The morning tee times start at 8 a.m. and the afternoon tee times begin at 12:30 p.m.
