NATCHEZ — Over the past four days, Adams County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested four men, seized drugs, weapons, vehicles and rescued pit-bull dogs after an investigation into alleged drug and dogfighting crimes.
Adams County Sheriff Travis Patten said deputies received information Monday about ongoing crimes, which the office’s Special Operations Group agents began to investigate.
On Tuesday, agents executed a search warrant at the 1302 Westwood Road residence of Jon Dale Adams, 44, also known as “Johnny Pigg,” where they allegedly found stolen property, methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia and surveillance equipment.
Adams was arrested and charged with possession of stolen property. He has since been released on a $10,000 bond.
On Tuesday evening, agents arrested Michael Liquint Johnson, 43, who was reportedly in possession of Xanax, methamphetamine and a loaded weapon, allegedly stolen from a car in mall parking lot.
Patten said Johnson had appeared in Adams County Justice Court earlier that day on additional drug charges.
Johnson was charged with possession of schedule II controlled substance (methamphetamine), possession of schedule IV substance (Xanax), possession of a weapon by a convicted felon and possession of a stolen firearm. He was being held without bond Thursday evening.
Agents reportedly later went to Johnson’s residence on Government Fleet Road, where they reportedly encountered additional people inside Johnson’s residence. Agents reportedly found a loaded gun in the residence, drug paraphernalia and methamphetamine.
On Thursday, agents with the ACSO Special Response Team executed a search warrant at 8 1/2 Pogo St., where they reportedly found Carlos Owens and Derrick Owens.
During a search inside the residence, agents allegedly found and seized nearly 2 pounds of marijuana, synthetic marijuana, more than 40 grams of cocaine, 57 alprazolam pills (Xanax), 21 Lortab pills, scales, baggies, packing material, two loaded pistols, one loaded rifle, surveillance equipment, two vehicles, $1,670 and other miscellaneous items were seized.
Deputy Karen Ewing was called to the residence when items were found, Patten said, that indicated six pit bulls in the yard were being trained to fight.
Ewing took possession of the dogs and Carlos and Derrick Owens are expected to face charges related to the animals.
“This is a very good example of the entire department working together and communicating between departments,” Patten said. “This started as a simple arrest for a warrant, and now stolen property has been recovered, methamphetamine, prescription medication, synthetic marijuana, a stolen gun, money, cars, surveillance equipment, have all been seized.
“But more importantly Michael Johnson and Carlos Owens are career offenders. This means that could face more than 30 years if found guilty of the charges. These officers have put in a tremendous amount of hours over the last three days to make this happen and have shown the dedication to take information and continue to pursue whatever crimes it may lead to.”
