MONTEREY — A routine traffic stop Monday led to the arrest of two Monterey residents and the seizure of four pounds of suspected high-grade marijuana.

The Concordia Parish Sheriff’s Office arrested Charley Cassidy Cannon, 29, and Vanessa Leigh Williams, 23, both of 166 Ryan Road, and charged both with three counts of possession of with three counts possession of schedule I marijuana with intent to distribute and one count of growing marijuana.

CPSO spokesman Vernon Stevens said the search began when Cannon was stopped for a stop sign violation at the intersection of Louisiana 15 and Louisiana 565. During a search of the vehicle, Stevens said deputies reportedly found approximately four ounces of marijuana.

Marijuana and marijuana paste was reportedly found in the purse of Williams, who was a passenger in the vehicle, Stevens said.

Stevens said deputies then obtained a search warrant for the 166 Ryan Road residence.

Agents from the CPSO multi-jurisdictional Drug Task Force found and seized approximately four pounds of high-grade hydroponic marijuana at the Ryan Road residence, Stevens said. Agents also found numerous containers of a substance believed to be THC wax packaged for distribution, as well as drug paraphernalia and packaging materials, he said.

Stevens said $13,000 in cash was seized. The estimated street value of the marijuana is more than $120,000, Stevens said.

The Vidalia Police Department also assisted in the search.

Cannon and Williams were both in jail Monday afternoon with no bond set.
