FERRIDAY — An 18-year-old man was arrested Thursday for allegedly shooting a man while attempting to rob him.

Khalan J. Webber, 18, 268 Bayou Drive, was arrested by Ferriday Police on charges of attempted armed robbery, attempted second-degree murder, simple escape and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.

The arrest stems from an incident occurring on the afternoon of Sept. 1. Ferriday Police Department Investigator Richard Madison said when the victim approached the ATM machine at Delta Bank to make a withdrawal, two males were reportedly watching the transaction.

The victim made the withdrawal and headed home, Madison said. Not long after the victim made it home, Madison said someone knocked on the door of the man’s Sixth Street residence.

Madison said the victim approached the door but did not answer. However, Madison said the two males outside are alleged to have jerked the door open as the victim neared it.

Brandishing weapons and wearing items concealing their faces, the two males are alleged to have demanded the victim hand over the money just retrieved from the ATM, Madison said.

The victim took off running, Madison said, and two shots were reportedly fired, one missing the victim near his head and the second striking the victim’s heel.

The victim was able to escape to a neighbor’s house, Madison said, where the police were called. The victim was treated and released at Riverland Medical Center.

Madison said police interviewed several witnesses and were able to identify Webber as a potential suspect as well as another individual. Madison said he would not identify the second suspect until an arrest was made.

Madison said Webber showed up at an unrelated crime scene Thursday and was taken in for questioning.

As Webber was taken out of the police department to be transported to the Concordia Parish Sheriff’s Office jail, he allegedly ran, Madison said.

Webber — cuffed at the legs and arms — made it across E.E. Wallace Boulevard to the sidewalk leading to Ferriday High School before an officer subdued him, Madison said.

A warrant has been issued for the arrest of the second suspect involved in the robbery, Madison said.Webber was in jail Friday with no bond set.
