VIDALIA — The Seventh Judicial District Attorney’s office is reviewing a case concerning a former Vidalia city employee accused of making unauthorized contractor payments.

Former city accountant Ashley Anderson resigned in March following an independent audit being conducted. The audit, ordered by the board of aldermen in February, reportedly turned up unauthorized contractor payments that had been made.

City officials have declined to discuss any further details surrounding the case.

District Attorney Brad Burget said his office is reviewing Anderson’s case for any activity of criminal wrongdoing.

“We will make a decision on the strength of the case and what she has allegedly done,” Burget said. “We are still reviewing the matter.”

When the board first moved to investigate the matter, the administration released a statement saying the alleged discrepancy had been discovered through the city’s system of checks and balances.
