Cathedral senior making swift transition to new position

In many offenses, there are often unsung heroes that do the little things, sometimes going unnoticed, who allow for big plays to develop.
In Cathedral High School coach Chuck Darbonne’s spread, up-tempo offense, perhaps that position is H-back, occupied by senior Jae Eidt.
Darbonne said the position requires toughness and the equal ability to block and catch passes, and Eidt has lived up to expectations so far.
“He’s got a great multifaceted skillset,” Darbonne said. “He’s got a little speed for a guy his size, and he’s strong.”
Eidt is making the transition to the position from running back, and Darbonne said his senior has done everything necessary to make it a seamless one.
“Jae is one of the hardest workers that we have here, and he plays hard for us,” Darbonne said. “He’s studious about what he’s doing on each particular play, and he hasn’t missed a workout since I’ve been here. He’s a great kid and leader.”
But Eidt’s responsibilities don’t end on the offensive side of the ball. The 5-foot-11 athlete also doubles as a fixture along the Greenwave’ front-seven, lining up at either defensive end or linebacker.
Eidt said his dedication to his craft just comes naturally.
“It’s just something I’ve always felt that was important,” he said. “You always have to have goals in life, and you always want to strive to be your best. This is my last year, so I want to give it everything I’ve got.”
Despite a sluggish 1-2 start, Eidt said he thinks his squad can still accomplish all of its preseason goals moving forward.
“I think we can go pretty far,” he said. “We can get deep into the playoffs if everyone gets healthy and gets on the same page. We can go as far as we want.”
Eidt said his future plans include attending Mississippi State University, where he intends on pursuing a degree in engineering.
Cathedral will travel Friday to Brookhaven Academy to take on former Greenwave coach Ron Rushing and the 0-3 Cougars.
