WATERPROOF — A graveside service the family of Robert Walker Manning, 87, of Waterproof, who died Sunday, Sept. 4, 2016, will be Wednesday in Harrisonburg, La.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Young’s Funeral Home in Ferriday.
Mr. Manning was born Sept. 21, 1928, in Natchez,
He was a lifelong resident of Waterproof, La., and a member of the Waterproof and Ferriday Presbyterian Church. He was a farmer and cotton merchant and owned Webb Cotton Company in Ferriday.
Robert was active in his community and served as board member of the Tensas State Bank and was a member of the Rotary Club. He attended Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, La., and was an active supporter and especially enjoyed rooting for the Demons at football games.
Mr. Manning was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Finlay Manning and a half-sister, Tallulah Brenaman.
Survivors include one son, Bob Manning and wife, Cece; one daughter, Jan Sample; one sister, Grace Manning of Dallas; four grandsons; and six great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Skip Hawkins, Jay James and his grandsons, Will Manning, Paul Manning, Knighton Sample and Grey Sample.
The family requests that any donations be made to Ferriday Presbyterian Church or Tensas Academy.
