VIDALIA — Jeff Ferguson and wife Becky do their fair share of traveling

In order to travel as much as they prefer, the couple needs a reliable form of transportation.

When The Dart landed on Alabama Street, the Fergusons were in their driveway polishing up their brand new means of travel — a 44-foot Entegra Anthem Motorhome.

The Fergusons plan to use their newest purchase to visit family, for LSU tailgates, but most of all for their life’s passion of visiting classic car shows.

The couple own seven classic cars, and serve as members of the River City Bad Boys, a local classic car enthusiasts group.

“We love to go to the Cruisin’ the Coast (a car show every October),” Jeff said. “A lot of our friends and relatives come and stay in the same area (near U.S. Highway 90), and we all take our cars. It’s all a part of our own car club that’s in this area.”

Jeff’s love of classic cars dates back to when he was a child and has continued to grow ever since.

“I’ve always had a passion for old cars,” Jeff said. “We restore some, and others we buy at auctions. I’ve restored a 1959 Corvette, that took me 13 years, and it’s completely restored. It looks like new.”

The couple said it is special being able to share their passion of classic cars with someone equally as enthused.

“I love them,” said Becky, who boasts a 1935 Ford sedan as her pride and joy. “They’re just not out there anymore, so they’re rare. I like the really old ones. (Jeff) likes the sports cars, the muscle cars.”

To her point, when the couple started dating Jeff was driving a 1969 Chevrolet Camaro.

“I told her the only reason she liked me was for the car,” Jeff said. “We were childhood sweethearts, and we got married right out of high school.”

The couple has been married for 40 years, and their latest outing took them to Simmesport, La., where they continued to share their love and passion not only for each other, but also for classic cars.

“We’re just showing off our cars,” Jeff said. “We all pay $25-$35 to get in, polish up our cars to hope to win a $15 plaque.”
