MEADVILLE — Franklin County senior athlete De’martre Collins made sure that the Bulldogs would give first-year head coach Trey Woodard his first win. He also made sure the Bulldogs would not start the 2016 season 0-3.

Collins had 15 carries for 123 yards and two touchdowns, including the game-winner from two yards out with 6:33 remaining, as Franklin County rallied to defeat the North Pike Jaguars 28-21 Friday night.

North Pike had a 21-7 lead early in the second quarter before Franklin County started its comeback when Caleb Robb scored on a 31-yard run with 7:35 to go until halftime. The Bulldogs got a 21-yard touchdown run from Keonte’ Bee at the 5:40 mark of the third quarter, but still trailed 21-20

Franklin County (1-2) plays at 7 p.m. Friday at home against Loyd Star.

WCCA 46, Clinton Christian Aca. 6

CLINTON — Caleb Poole, Steven Franks and Braden Passinger each had over 100 yards rushing and at least one touchdown each as Wilkinson County Christian Academy defeated Clinton Christian Academy 46-6 Friday night.

Poole led the Rams’ rushing attack with 17 carries for 200 yards and three touchdowns as well as a 90-yard kickoff return for a touchdown. Franks added 177 yards and two touchdowns on just 10 carries while Passinger had 107 yards and one touchdown on only six carries.

After a lackluster first quarter, WCCA broke the game open with a 20-point second quarter. The Rams added 12 points in the third quarter before the Warriors finally got on the scoreboard late in that quarter.

Defensively, Passinger had eight tackles and one interception while Poole had six tackles.

WCCA (2-0) hosts ACCS at 7 p.m. next Friday.

Zachary (La.) 42, Wilkinson County 34

ZACHARY, La. — Wilkinson County had an opportunity to pull off a major upset over the defending LHSAA Class 5A state champion Zachary Broncos, but the Wildcats fell short 42-34 Friday night.

At one point in the second quarter, Wilkinson County had a 26-14 lead only to see Zachary score a key touchdown midway through the quarter to go into halftime down just 26-21.

The Broncos took the lead in the third quarter at 27-26, but the Wildcats responded early in the fourth quarter for a 34-27 lead. However, Zachary took the lead for good with 5:41 to go on a touchdown and 2-point conversion and added another score late in the game.

Wilkinson County (1-2) plays at 7 p.m. next Friday at North Pike.

Centreville Academy 39, Brookhaven Academy 14

CENTREVILLE — Austen Addington had nine carries for 139 yards and two touchdowns as the Centreville Academy Tigers extended Brookhaven Academy’s losing streak to 16 straight games as they beat the Cougars 39-14 Friday night.

Addington scored on a 59-yard touchdown run nearly midway through the first quarter and he added a 19-yard touchdown run with 4:34 left in the third quarter.

Tyler Thomassie threw the ball only four times, but two of those resulted in touchdowns. He connected with Matthew Parnell with a 32-yard TD pass late in the first quarter and with Haze Greer with a 25-yard scoring strike early in the second quarter.

The only thing that worked well for the Cougars was their passing game. Madison Smith was 15-for-29 through the air for 263 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions.

Centreville Academy (2-1) plays at 7 p.m. next Friday when it begins MAIS District 5-AAA action at home against Ben’s Ford.

Morton 41, Jefferson County 28

MORTON — Jefferson County tried to come back from a 20-0 halftime deficit, but the problem was the Tigers could not stop Morton from putting up points in a wild fourth quarter as the Panthers held on for a 41-28 win Friday night.

Rah’Kendrick Reynolds scored two touchdowns in the fourth quarter — one on a pass and the other on the ground. He completed seven of 18 passes for 105 yards and scored on a 2-yard run. He threw a 21-yard scoring pass to Milo Collins with 9:26 left in the game.

The one player Tigers head coach James Herrington knew they had to stop was D.D. Bowie. They couldn’t Bowie had a touchdown reception, three touchdown runs and a big 80-yard kick return at the 9:05 mark of the fourth quarter.

Jalen Herrington was the leading rusher for the Tigers as he had 13 carries for 61 yards. Jacqurious Blake had five catches for 77 yards to go with a 38-yard fumble return for a touchdown in the third quarter.

Jefferson County (1-2) plays at 7 p.m. next Friday at South Delta, the second of three straight road games for the Tigers.
