Former Trinity Episcopal and LSU running back Stevan Ridley has signed with the Indianapolis Colts, reports said Sunday.
Ridley was recently released by the Detroit Lions, after he signed a short-term contract in April.
Ridley will be battling Robert Turbin, Josh Ferguson and Jordan Todman for a roster spot to take snaps behind projected Colts starter Frank Gore. The Colts have one more preseason game before opening the season against Ridley’s former team, Detroit.
The 27-year-old veteran is two seasons out from a knee injury he suffered in 2014. Ridley has one 1,000-yard rushing season, running for 1,263 yards in 2012 as a key player for the New England Patriots. Ridley tallied 36 carries for 90 yards as a backup for the New York Jets in 2015.
Ridley saw limited opportunities in preseason games with the Lions. He had five rushes for 14 yards against Pittsburgh and four attempts for 13 yards against Cincinnati.
Ridley was unavailable for comment.
