Flood relief tops week of good news

As the nation continues to focus on the flood relief efforts in South Louisiana, let us take a moment to review some of the good news from last week:
-Trucks and trailers filled with supplies, clothing and other donated items traveled from Natchez and Vidalia to deliver relief to flood victims last week. Local UPS driver Justin Adams partnered with Katie’s Ladies clothing storeowner Katie McCarstle to fill a small trailer with flood relief provisions to deliver to Baton Rouge Saturday.
The community response was so great, organizers ended up seeking assistance from the local Coca-Cola office to provide one of its delivery vehicles.
Other organizations and local churches, including Junior Auxiliary and the First Baptist Church of Vidalia have been busy collecting supplies and clothing to help out in the effort.
Once again, local residents have opened their hearts and their wallets to help those in need. Thanks to everyone who has once again demonstrated kindness and generosity in the face of tragedy.
-Natchez’s Javontrics Murphy did not let failure define him when he was unable to graduate from Natchez High School last year. Instead of turning his back on high school, Murphy took online courses with Orion High School to make sure he earned his diploma and graduated. He earned his diploma while also working a job earning money. With his tenacity and enthusiasm for learning, Murphy is on the right track for a successful future.
As the summer gives way to fall, let us remember to always look for those who make our community special.
