Wilkinson County Christian Academy not only avenged one of its two losses from the 2015 season, it did so in dominating fashion — especially on defense.
The Rams raced to a 42-0 victory over Class AAA Ben’s Ford Christian School Eagles Friday night.
Caleb Poole, the reigning All-Metro Player of the Year, accounted for 184 yards of total offense and three total touchdowns. He completed three of 11 passes for 146 yards with two touchdowns and one interception. He also had nine carries for 38 yards and one touchdown.
Hutch Holden had a solid game on both sides of the ball for WCCA as he had a 28-yard touchdown catch from Poole with 5:11 to go in the first quarter and a 38-yard interception return for a touchdown with 7:20 remaining in the third quarter.
WCCA led Ben’s Ford 8-0 before blowing the game open in the second quarter. Steven Franks had a 1-yard touchdown run just 48 seconds into the quarter, Poole connected with Braden Passinger on a 79-yard touchdown pass midway through the quarter, and Poole’s 1-yard TD run came with 0:01 to go until halftime.
Then Franks scored on a 42-yard run with 11:15 left in the third quarter. Franks finished with 83 yards on 10 carries.
The Rams’ defense held the Eagles to just one first down and four total yards of offense. They also picked off three passes. Passinger had one interception as did D’Mario Weathersby.
WCCA (1-0) was scheduled to play at Central Private School in Baker, La. next Friday, but because flooding in the Baton Rouge area, that game to be canceled. The Rams don’t play again until at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 2 at Clinton Christian Academy.
