NATCHEZ — Services for Fannie Mae “Madea” Champs, 83, of Natchez, who died Monday, Aug. 15, 2016, at her residence, will be noon today at Mount Pilgrim Baptist Church with the Rev. Johnnie Elery officiating.  08:20 FannieChamp obitpic

Burial will follow at Robinson Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery under the direction of Marshall Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until service time today at the church.

Mrs. Champs was born Feb. 15, 1933, in Franklin County, the daughter of Ernest Havard and Fennie Mae Granger Sweazer.

She enjoyed missionary service and was a soloist.

Mrs. Champs was preceded in death by her parents; stepfather, Leon Sweazer; her husband, Nathan “Jack” Champs; one daughter, Marilyn Spiller; one son, Louis Spiller Sr.; five grandchildren; four sisters; and two brothers.

Survivors include four daughters, Wilma Harris of Prattville, Ala., Sadie Lewis and husband, Edgar, of Azle, Texas, Phyllis Johnson and Jacqueline Champs and fiancé, Derrick Williams, all of Natchez; four sons, Murray Sweazer and wife, Anna, of Montgomery, Ala., Perry Champs and wife, Christal, Michael Champs and wife, Pamela, all of Natchez, and Kevin Champs of Fort Worth, Texas; three sisters, Carrie Alexander of Garden City, Edith Havard of Atlanta and Sadie Havard Scott of Natchez; four brothers, Henry Sweazer, Cleveland Havard, Leslie Havard and Frank Havard, all of Natchez; 48 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; two special nephews, David Sweazer and Terry Alexander; and a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
