For the first time in six years, Cathedral High School will be led onto the field by a new head coach.
Chuck Darbonne will take to the sidelines in his Cathedral coaching debut as the Green Wave travel today to Vicksburg to take on rival St. Aloysius.
“There’s something new every day to get ready for,” Darbonne said. “I do something every day to make sure everything flows smoothly (today).”
Darbonne is jumping in head first, as his squad takes on the rival Flashes, which are led by Ole Miss offensive line commit Ben Brown.
The first-year head man said he is more than confident in his team’s ability, adding that his team is eagerly looking forward to the season.
“They’re intense,” Darbonne said. “They have the goal in mind of being 1-0, and we try to not look past any game. They’re focused on St. Aloysius.”
Darbonne said Friday’s outcome will come down to two factors: turnovers and field position, both of which could be potentially affected by rain.
“We don’t know how the weather might be,” Darbonne said. “We don’t really know how much the rain will affect the kids in a game like this.”
Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
