Concordia Parish deputies confiscate dogs, make arrests in alleged dog fighting case

FERRIDAY — Forty-two dogs were confiscated and four arrests were made Sunday after the Concordia Parish Sheriff’s Office received a complaint of dog fighting in Ferriday.
CPSO spokesman Vernon Stevens said investigation into the dog fighting is ongoing and more arrests are pending.
When the first deputy arrived on the scene, he noticed blood in the driveway with a trail of blood of blood leading behind the trailer, Stevens said. At the rear of the trailer, the deputy found a pen that was built in the shape of a dog-fighting ring and other items related to dog fighting, Stevens said.The deputy also reportedly smelled the strong odor of marijuana near the trailer.
Jameel D. Green, 36, 127 Warren St., Ferriday, was arrested on the scene and charged with dog fighting and 42 counts of cruelty to animals.
Once the CPSO special operations group was called to assist and a search warrant was obtained, deputies searched the trailer.
Inside deputies reportedly found Cameron Deshan Ward, 20, 112 Elmwood St., and an infant child. She was charged with possession of schedule II drugs with intent to sell, possession of schedule III drugs, possession of schedule II drugs with intent to sell, possession of drug paraphernalia, dog fighting, cruelty to a juvenile and 42 counts cruelty to animals.
During the search of the trailer, deputies reportedly found four, gallon-sized bags containing a substance suspected to hydroponic marijuana, a baggie containing nine dose units of hydrocodone, three vials of steroids and drug paraphernalia used in the sale of narcotics.
During the investigation, deputies arrested Brandon D. Allen, 25, 346 Loomis Lane, Ferriday, and McKinley Bates Jr., 421 Fifth St., Ferriday, for allegedly entering the taped off area of a crime scene and interfering with a law enforcement investigation, Stevens said. The two were charged with interfering in a law enforcement investigation.
Stevens said deputies discovered 42 dogs, some of which had injuries, at the scene. The dogs are being cared for by the Concordia PAWS (Pets Are Worth Saving) organization and are being housed at several locations in the parish.
Green, Ward. Allen and Bates were jailed Monday without bonds.
