The Ferriday Gators split a double header in the Dixie Debs World Series Sunday.
Ferriday won Game 1 against Florida, 12-3, and lost Game 2 to host team Alexandria, 7-3.
“Our pitching was pretty good against Florida,” coach Rut Horne said. “(Alexandria) has one good pitcher, and they pulled her out and that’s when we got our hits … she came back in to close the game.”
In Game 1, Bailey Book struck out four batters over five innings to earn the win. Brianna Henson was 3-for-5, Tali Beard was 3-for-5 and Darby Beach was 2-for-5.
Ferriday out-hit Florida 14 to two.
In Game 2, Alexandria’s shutdown pitching staff struck out eight Gators through the first five innings. Ferriday was out-hit 12 to four.
Ferriday is now in the losers’ bracket, set to face Tennessee at 5:30 p.m. today.
