FAYETTE – Services for Mable Hammett Walker McDonald, 83, of Fayette, who died Saturday, March 19, 2011, at her residence, will be at 2 p.m. today at Rose Hill No.1 Baptist Church.
Burial will follow at the church cemetery under the direction of Marshall Funeral Home in Bude.
Visitation will be from noon until service time today at the church.
Mother Mable Hammett Walker McDonald was born Feb. 24, 1928, in Harrison, the daughter of Abe Hammett and Annie Hall Hammett.
In 1945, she was united in holy matrimony to the late Louis Walker, to this union three children were born, Elizabeth, Emily and Melvin. Following the death of Louis, she married Archie McDonald Sr., to this union no children were born. However, she became the stepmother to five children, Litha, Ruthie, Jiardine, Archie Jr. and Herbert.
Mable joined Rose Hill No. 1 Baptist Church in 1950, where she was a mother of the church and served faithfully until her health failed.
On March 19, 2011, Mable was released from the pains of this world to enter the peace of being with the Lord.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Archie McDonald Sr.; former husband, Louis; one son, Melvin; three brothers, Roosevelt, Percy and J.L. Hammett Sr.; four sisters, Daisy, Berniece, Rosie and Odell; two grandsons, Terrance and Patrick Walker; one granddaughter, Jy’Juanza Burgman; one great-grandson, Donavon Walker; and one great-granddaughter, Kei’Ronza Burgman.
The beautiful memories of Mable is left to be cherished by two daughters, Elizabeth Walker Burgman and husband, Charlie, and Emily Walker, all of Fayette; one son, Curly Ray Hammett of Chicago; three stepdaughters, Litha Davis and husband, Volley, Ruthie Stampley and Jiardine McDonald, all of Fayette; two stepsons, Archie McDonald Jr. of New Orleans and Herbert McDonald and wife, Dorothy, of Natchez; two sisters, Mary Hammett St. Anne of Fayette and Henrietta Jones of Bogalusa, La.; nine grandchildren, David and Raymond Hammett of Chicago, Eddie Walker of Virginia, Benjamin Lyons of South Carolina, Keisha Walker, Tami, Kenesha, Louis and wife, Channel, and Aaron Burgman and wife, Tilly, all of Fayette; 11 great-grandchildren; 13 step-grandchildren; 24 step-great-grandchildren; one aunt, Mable McGee of Louisiana; one sister-in-law, Laura L. Hammett of Harriston; two very special friends, Lillie Mae James and Channel Harried; and a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
