NATCHEZ — Four people were injured Wednesday night when a man opened fire on the vehicle they were in shortly after the group arrived at a house in the Cranfield community.
Adams County Sheriff Travis Patten said the victims — two men and two women — were arriving at 41 Fieldview Drive at approximately 7 p.m. when Toby Surrena, 31, allegedly shot at their vehicle from the edge of a wooded area near the residence.
The two men were shot and later airlifted to a hospital, the location of which Patten said he did not want to disclose for the sake of the victims’ safety. Patten said he did not know the extent of the victims’ injuries or their conditions.
The two women suffered minor injuries, but Patten said it was unclear if they were struck by bullet fragments or glass.
Surrena was charged with two counts of attempted murder and two counts of aggravated assault. More charges may come later, Patten said.
The shooting is under investigation, Patten said, and information on a motive for the shooting and whether Surrena was the sole shooter would not be released Wednesday night.
Two weapons — a handgun and a rifle — were recovered at the scene, Patten said.
