VIDALIA — The fifth inning proved to be the undoing for the Little League 11-12-year-old Vidalia All-Stars.

Clinging to a one-run advantage in its opening game of the state tournament, Vidalia committed three errors, which helped Eastbank score five runs in a come-from-behind 7-3 win Saturday night.

“This ball game was lost on a few errors,” Vidalia coach Randi Poole said. “That cost us the game.”

Eastbank advances to today’s 8 p.m. winner’s bracket matchup against Bossier, while Vidalia will attempt to stave off elimination at 6 p.m. against Blanchard.

“We’re going to come back strong,” Poole said. “I know we can do it. I feel like if we keep advancing, we’ll see them in the championship game.”

Prior to the forgettable fifth, the Vidalia players provided their fans with plenty of fireworks, highlighted by the play of its catcher Lauren Dunbar.

Dunbar threw out two runners attempting to steal second base, in addition to making a diving catch in foul territory.

Dunbar also proved to be equally effective with the bat. The Vidalia backstop got her squad on the board first in the opening frame after lacing a two-run double down the left-field line.

“We were playing great,” Poole said. “We were pitching good, we just had a couple of errors that hurt us.”

Vidalia also received strong production from relief pitcher Jessica White, who entered the game with one out in the bottom of the first and pitched into the fifth. White also knocked in Vidalia’s third-run of the game with a single to left that scored Rebecca Cowan.

“(White) did a great job pitching,” Poole said. “She’s always pretty accurate, and I go to her anytime during the game.”
