Davis’ choice not to vote without information to be applauded

I want to say a few words about Ben Davis, the alderman who chose not to vote on the new city attorney just after he was sworn in last Saturday. My husband, Jim, and I know Ben, and we know him to be an honest and honorable man who is serious about doing what is right for Natchez.

What is wrong with wanting more information before you cast a vote for the legal future of Natchez? If time is given for a reasonable discussion, important information could be given for choosing one candidate over the other. At the very least the default judgement against the city during the tenure of one candidate would give pause for consideration of past performance.

To hint that Ben is a lackey or puppet of anyone is a disservice to the man Jim and I know. Do not label Ben before you get to know the person he is.

We should celebrate the fact that we have a new, dynamic mayor who embraces change and a new alderman who wants facts before he votes to initiate change.
