Franklin County rallied for nine runs in the bottom of the second, and Colby Guice tossed a pair of shutout innings to help lift his squad to a 15-0 win over Monterey in Concordia Tri-Parish Dixie Boys baseball action Wednesday in Vidalia.

“We didn’t play to the best of our ability, but we played well enough to win,” Franklin County coach Lance Murray said.

Franklin County was led at the plate by Terrence Charles, who reached base three times, drove in two runs and swiped two bases.

“We did well,” Charles said. “We hit the ball really well.”

The win for FC wrapped up its summer season with a 10-1 mark. Murray said the key to his squad’s success is a strong chemistry that has been developed over the course of several years.

“They’ve been playing together through Dixie Youth and through junior high,” Murray said. “They’ve had success in all-stars playing together, and they’ve carried it over to this year.”

While the Franklin County hitters took control of the game at the plate, Guice kept Monterey at bay with his performance on the mound.

“I just kept my head in the game and stayed focused,” Guice said. “I feel my hitters have my back when I pitch.”

The right-handed hurler allowed no hits while striking out two batters in his two impressive innings.

“I’m very proud of us (this summer),” Guice said. “We came out here thinking we were determined, but we became determined (as a team) to win.”
