NATCHEZ — Natchez Police are investigating an alleged armed robbery that occurred on Caddo Street Monday night.
One man, Frederick Hunt, was arrested Tuesday and charged with armed robbery and possession of a controlled substance. Police Chief Daniel White said more arrests soon would follow.
NPD reports an officer was outside of Talk of the Town nightclub on Franklin Street at 10:30 p.m. when the alleged victim, a woman, approached the officer. The report said her face was bleeding heavily.
The woman told the officer she had been approached by five men while outside a friend’s house on Caddo Street. She told police one of the men demanded her purse and money, and two men struck her in the face with firearms.
The woman was able to provide police with two of the men’s first names, one of which was Frederick, White said.
While the officer was interviewing the woman, a silver car sped past, going the wrong way on Franklin Street. The alleged victim identified the car as one used by her attackers.
Another police officer was dispatched to pursue the vehicle. Police pulled over the car and arrested the driver, Frederick Hunt. White said Hunt was held overnight while the incident was investigated and was charged Tuesday morning.
“They are still investigating some more guys,” White said. “We’re pretty sure some more will be arrested soon.”
