FERRIDAY — The third title in Marvel’s “Wolverine” film series will shoot some scenes north of Ferriday later this month.

The “Wolverine” sequel is an American superhero film based on the Marvel comic book character of the same name. It follows 2009’s “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” and 2013’s “The Wolverine.” James Mangold will direct the film, which stars Hugh Jackman.

Fox Louisiana Productions is primarily filming in the greater New Orleans area and in Mexico, but Concordia Parish Police Jury Secretary/Treasurer Kevin Friloux said from June 12 to June 16, the crew will shoot at a location off Louisiana 15 between Ferriday and Clayton.

Friloux said from the hours of 5 a.m. to 7 p.m., the road would be closed to all traffic from Serio Boulevard to the Red Gum area. Traffic is being detoured from Louisiana 568 to Louisiana 900. Friloux said the road would be open to local traffic only during hours when the crew is not filming.

The working title of the sequel is “Juarez,” Friloux said.

NOLA’s Central Casting office has released calls for the project, including children to play mutants and adults to play Federales, as well as other extra roles.

The sequel is rumored to be Jackman’s last time performing in the role of the superhero. The Australian actor posted on Instagram in March: “Wolverine… One last time.”

Not much is known about the upcoming movie, but the studio revealed it “takes place in the future … it is an R-rated movie. It’s violent, it’s kind of like a western in its tone. It’s just a very cool, different film.”

The film is scheduled to be released on March 3, 2017.

Friloux said the filming would benefit Concordia Parish indirectly. He said the production is leasing storage property in Ferriday.

“Wherever the cast and crew is staying, there will be a local impact in purchases and supplies,” he said. “But there will be no fees going to the parish as a result of them filming here.”
