VIDALIA — A 2-year-old boy drowned in his family’s swimming pool Thursday in Concordia Parish.
Concordia Parish Coroner Jim Graves said the child was pronounced dead at Riverland Medical Center after paramedics attempted to resuscitate him in the ambulance.
The boy’s mother discovered him in the pool at the family’s residence on Sage Road and called 911 at approximately 11 a.m. Thursday.
Graves said the death was an accidental drowning. The boy’s name has not been released.
Concordia Parish Sheriff’s Office spokesman Vernon Stevens said a deputy responded to the scene, but no criminal act is suspected.
“It doesn’t appear at this point to be anything but an accident,” he said.
Stevens said the coroner generally has the responsibility of determining whether a death is accidental.
