Natchez — Stewart Realty pitcher Presley Martin struck out seven of nine batters, and Stewart Realty out-slugged Reagan Diesel to an 11-5 win in an 11- to 12-year old Natchez-Adams Softball League game Thursday night at the Natchez-Adams Softball Complex.
Runs were scarce early in the game. Stewart Realty was able to manufacture one run the in the first inning with an RBI single from Aysia Pollard.
Martin went to work in the bottom of the frame, allowing one walk and striking out the side.
“(The key to getting strikeouts) is concentration and having the right release point,” Presley said.
Stewart Realty supplied most of its run support in the second inning. Kirahn Mills led off the inning with a single and Reagan Diesel hit three-straight batters. Ava Reese cleared the bases on a three-RBI triple that split the outfielders and extended Stewart Realty’s lead to 6-0.
“Hitting was the key (Thursday),” Stewart Realty coach David Parsons said. “We came on really strong at the beginning of the season and slacked off in the last two games. In this game, they really showed what they could do. I’m very proud of them.”
Reagan Diesel mounted a comeback effort in the bottom of the second inning. Ka’Jaryana Jordan roped an RBI single that scored Ta’Niyah Johnson, who later scored on a wild pitch. Martin was still able to strike out two batters in the inning to bring her team to the plate with a 7-2 lead.
Stewart Realty blew the game open in the third inning. Taelor Magee hit an RBI groundout to score Porsha Brown, and Martin helped her own cause later in the inning on a two-RBI triple.
Martin stepped back into the circle in the bottom of the third inning and added two more strikeouts on the way to her team’s victory.
“(We’ve been successful this season) from using teamwork,” Martin said.
Stewart Realty improved to a 5-2 record on the season.
