NATCHEZ — Two local law enforcement agencies will partner this week to pass the torch for a good cause.

The Adams County Sheriff’s Office and Natchez Police Department will lead the Law Enforcement Torch Run Thursday in Natchez.

The torch is passing through Natchez on its way to Mississippi’s 2016 Special Olympics Summer Games this weekend at Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi.

The mission of the LETR for Special Olympics is to raise funds for and awareness of the Special Olympics movement worldwide. Law enforcement officers across the state will carry the torch, representing the “flame of hope.”

The mission of Special Olympics is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for all children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in the sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and their community.

The torch run is scheduled for 9 a.m. on Broadway Street.
