NATCHEZ — Miss-Lou residents will have the opportunity to run through clouds of color in support of local groups Saturday morning in Natchez’s first Color Dash.

The Color Dash is a fundraising 5K event hosted by the Young Professionals and Leadership Natchez. The two groups will benefit from half of the profits from the race.

Natchez-Adams County Chamber of Commerce President Debbie Hudson said Leadership Natchez plans to donate its portion to Habitat for Humanity and the Young Professionals will give its portion of proceeds to the chamber.

Hudson said the race will begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday on the bluff, and will go down State Street, part of Main Street, Franklin Street and Jefferson Street. It will last until roughly 11:30 a.m.

Because of the downtown route the runners are taking, Hudson said drivers should be careful while driving downtown during the race.

“Runners are going to hold up some traffic in some places,” Hudson said. “But, I don’t want people to not come downtown. Drivers will be able to get through.”

As of Wednesday afternoon, Hudson said 550 runners were signed up for the race, and she expected more signups before the morning of the race.

“Every day this week we’ve gotten another 40 or 50 signups,” Hudson said. “I think we are going to get close to 600.”

Registration is $40 per individual, or registering as a family team gets discounted registration. Registration includes a T-shirt, stickers, packets of colored powder and admission to Riverstock, which will begin when the race finishes, and will feature music, food, carnival rides and craft beers.

Registration is available at riverstockfest.com, at Bowie’s Tavern from 5 to 9 p.m. today or at 8 a.m. Saturday on the bluff until the race starts.
