Natchez tennis players knocked out in state tournament

JACKSON — Natchez High School’s run in the MHSAA 5A state tennis tournament ended with a pair of two-set sweeps Tuesday at Parham Bridges in Jackson.
In girls singles, Kirdis Clark was swept 6-0, 6-0. In mixed doubles, Bailey Butler and Jaylen Grennell were also swept 6-0, 6-0.
Clark and the Butler-Grennell pair were coming off Monday morning victories in the singles and mixed doubles semifinals.
Clark defeated Carley Cochran of Wayne County 6-1, 6-3. Butler and Grennell defeated Hayden Embry and Anna Spears of Neshoba Central in three sets 6-1, 3-6, 6-2.
Oxford won the 5A state title for the ninth consecutive season. Natchez tennis finished the season with a 5-2 mark.
