NATCHEZ — Approximately 116 golfers descended on Duncan Park Saturday to partake in the Joe Fortunato-Allen Brown Tricentennial Golf Classic.
The tournament supports the Miss-Lou chapter of the National Football Foundation, and all of Saturday’s proceeds go directly to scholarships awarded annually to local scholar-athletes on behalf of the organization.
Miss-Lou chapter president Joe Brown said 29 groups competed in a four-man scramble, vying for the tournaments top honor.
The group of Stuart Heflin, Henry Famer, Tom Bryant and Jordan Farmer won this year’s scramble with a score 51.
“(The tournament) went great,” Brown said. “We had a great turnout and, and it was a very successful day.”
Cathedral High School’s Jackson Carpenter was the top recipient of this year’s scholarship money and was awarded $3,000.
“It’s great to reward the kids that worked really hard for (the scholarship),” Brown said. “It’s something we are deeply fond of (as an organization). Everybody in the community gets behind us and supports the event.”
