NATCHEZ — Graveside services for Dan Morrell Claiborne, 72, of Natchez, who died Thursday, April 28, 2016, in Natchez, will be 10 a.m. Monday at the Natchez National Cemetery. 04:30 DanClaiborne obitpic

Burial will follow under the direction of West Gate Funeral Home.

Mr. Claiborne was born Oct. 10, 1943, in Adams County, the son of Dan Claiborne and Pearlie Lee Stewart.

He was a graduate of Jackson State University.

Dan converted to Christ July 10, 1955, and united with Jerusalem Baptist Church under the leadership of the Rev. S.H. Williams. He was retired from United Parcel Service.

Dan enjoyed reading.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepmother, Rosie Lee Claiborne; one brother, Vernon Claiborne; and one uncle, William Stewart.

Survivors include a special aunt and uncle, Amos and Josie Jackson, who raised him as their son; three brothers, Larry Claiborne, Steve Claiborne and Don Claiborne and wife, Emma, all of Natchez; an adopted brother of Atlanta; one sister, Dianne Johnson and husband, Roosevelt; five aunts, Theresa Cain and husband, Luther, Rose Turner and Peggy Rice, all of Natchez, Jessie L. King of San Antonio, Texas, and Dolly Guyton of Pasadena, Calif.; five uncles, Alvin Stewart, Kenny Ray Stewart and wife, Twanna, and Joseph Claiborne, all of Natchez, Manson Stewart and wife, Betty, of Atlanta, and Horace Stewart and wife, Kathleen, of Monroe, La.; and other relatives and friends.
