NATCHEZ — A man previously arrested in Concordia Parish on rape charges has been charged in Adams County with another sex crime.

Michael Adam Bumgarner, 39, 1228 Apple St., Vidalia, was booked in the Adams County Jail Wednesday on a charge of touching a child for lustful purposes. He was detained without bond.

Reports at the Adams County Sheriff’s Office say the alleged victim — a minor — told investigators this month that around December Bumgarner had allegedly touched her inappropriately on two instances.

This arrest follows a March arrest in Concordia Parish in which Bumgarner was charged with two counts of third-degree rape and one count sexual battery.

At the time of his Concordia Parish arrest, Bumgarner used an Adams County address, but was reportedly a resident of Vidalia when the alleged crimes occurred.

One of the third-degree rape charges dates to 2004 and involves an alleged victim who was 15 at the time.

The other third-degree rape charge involves an alleged victim who was 14 at the time and dates to 2009.

The sexual battery charge involves an alleged victim who was 9, and dates to 2004.

The ACSO report does not include the age of the alleged Natchez victim.

Bumgarner was initially given a $22,000 bond in Concordia Parish, but Judge John Reeves later increased it to a total of $130,000 — $50,000 for each rape charge and $30,000 for the battery charge — after the district attorney’s office asked him to raise the bond.

The Concordia Parish charges originated after one of the alleged victims came forward, and then the others followed suit.
