At approximately 1 a.m. Saturday, two women were walking down Silver Street to Under-the-Hill Saloon when the suspect jumped over the railing and pulled a knife on them, the women told police.

The women told their attacker they would give him money, but the assailant first asked if the women had children. One woman said she did. The suspect then went after the woman who had children with a knife. An officer then arrived on the scene.

One woman ran out in front of the NPD patrol car on Silver Street and started yelling that a man had a knife, police reported. As this was happening, the officer saw the suspect grab another woman standing in the road.

The man noticed the patrol car, then turned and ran down Silver Street about 50 yards with a knife in his right hand, the report said. The suspect jumped over the railing and off the cliff.

Natchez Police Chief Danny White said the police department received a tip directing them to Claiborne Street, where they arrested the subject.

“My understanding is a citizen read (about the crime) in the paper, called us, and we were able to get in contact with those individuals and they identified him,” White said.

Hoye was booked at NPD at 3:20 p.m. Tuesday and is expected to appear in municipal court 9 a.m. today.
