NATCHEZ — This weekend is expected to bring rain and thunderstorms, but also plenty of fun things to do across the area.

High temperatures should be in the low 80s and lows in the upper 60s all weekend.

Thursday should be largely clear, but Friday will have scattered thunderstorms throughout the day. Saturday afternoon is expected to bring storms to last through Sunday morning.

Natchez Chapter DAR Birthday

The Daughters of the American Revolution will celebrate the 120th birthday of the Natchez Chapter, the 125th birthday of the NSDAR and the Natchez 300th birthday from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. today at Rosalie Gardens.

Refreshments will be served and the public is invited.

Iron Men Outdoor Games

The Iron Men, a group sponsored by First Baptist Church of Natchez, will host outdoor games competitions on the bluff 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.

The games will feature a dock dog jumping contest to measure length of each canine’s jump into a large pool, a “3D archery” tournament featuring standing targets shaped like wild game, and a few games for young children.

Competitors may register day-of for both main competitions. Cost of entry is $20 for archery and $30 for dock dog jumping. Food vendors.

Admission to watch will be free.

Nerdy Wolf 5k

The third annual Nerdy Wolf 5K Run/Walk will begin 8 a.m. Saturday by the Mississippi River Valley Train Depot.

Copiah-Lincoln Community College’s Natchez campus will host the 5k and the children’s 1-mile fun run, which begins immediately following the 5k.

Both races benefit the students of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society and the Co-Lin Veterans Scholarship Fund.

Race day registration is $25 and packet pickup begins at 7 a.m. at the depot, located at the intersection of Broadway and Franklin streets.

Seeds of Change Resource Foundation Community Project

“Christmas in April” will be from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday as volunteers perform minor repairs on houses of the elderly, disabled and veterans.

Volunteers are asked to meet at Trace Town next to the former Burger King building at 7:45 a.m.

Free Health Screening Fair

A free health screening fair will be offered from 9 a.m. to noon at the O’Connor Family Life Center on Main Street.

The event is sponsored by St. Mary Basilica in conjunction with Cathedral School seventh grade class.

Mother-Daughter Tea

The Community Chapel Church of God will host a mother-daughter tea at 2 p.m. Saturday at the church.

The event, which comes one week before Mother’s Day, will include refreshments and a faith-based motivational talk by Dory Davis.

Event organizer Traci Swilley said the event would provide an opportunity for little girls and their mothers, aunts and grandmothers to spend quality time together and receive a Gospel message. Admission is free.
