Playoff baseball roundup: Indianola, Block drop series openers

INDIANOLA — Indianola Academy scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning as the Colonels went on to defeat the Centreville Academy Tigers 6-2 Tuesday afternoon to take Game 1 of this MAIS Class AAA State first-round series.
Centreville Academy starting pitcher Brant Garrett was tagged for four runs on five hits in the first two innings and the Tigers were not able to get over the hump. The Tigers rallied for two runs in the top of the third inning to make it a 4-2 game, but they could not keep the momentum going.
The Colonels were kept off the scoreboard until the bottom of the sixth when they plated the final two runs of the game. They tallied eight hits and took advantage of three Tigers errors.
The Tigers were led at the plate by Garrett, who went 2-for-3 with one run batted in. Matthew Bihm and Tyler Thomassie each had a double.
Centreville Academy (19-7) next plays at 4:30 p.m. Friday and will host Game 2 of this best-of-three series. If there is a third and deciding game, it will take place about 30 minutes after the completion of Game 2.
Cedar Creek 9, Block 2
RUSTON, La. — The No. 24 seed Block High School Bears saw their season come to an end Tuesday afternoon as they lost to the No. 9 seed Cedar Creek Cougars 9-2 in the first round of the LHSAA Class 1A Playoffs.
No other information on the game was available. Block finished its season with an overall record of 12-13.
