Franklin County, Jefferson County win, WCHS falls

MEADVILLE — Franklin County had two rushers gain over 100 yards as it defeated South Pike 37-14 Friday.
Dehendret Collins tallied 162 yards on seven carries, and Milton Griffin had 104 yards on 18 rushing attempts. Griffin scored two touchdowns and Collins tallied one.
Griffin’s first touchdown came with 2:25 left in the first quarter on a 60-yard run.
In the second quarter, Darnell Ford scored for the Bulldogs on an 11-yard run. Edward McGhee added a 5-yard touchdown carry later in the quarter.
Griffin scored again on a 16-yard carry with 7:00 to go in the third quarter, and Collins scored his touchdown on a 92-yard run with 2:17 left.
The Bulldogs scored one more touchdown in the fourth quarter on a 1-yard run by Fred Coleman.
South Pike scored two touchdowns in the fourth, one on a 40-yard reception by Chris Coleman and another on a 35-yard catch by John Martin.
“We were blocking better (tonight),” Bulldogs head coach Trent Hammond said. “We had a bunch of guys carry the football. That kept us fresher on defense.”

FAYETTE — Jefferson County scored two insurance touchdowns in the fourth quarter, but only need the one it scored in the second quarter, as it shut out Crystal Springs.
Jefferson County’s Steven Grayson ran a fumble return 44 yards for a touchdown with 11:44 left in the second.
Each of the Tigers’ fourth quarter touchdowns came late. Davian Noble ran an interception back 75 yards with 2:55 to go, and Kiwaski Tenner added a 15-yard touchdown run with 0:02 left in the game.
The Tigers’ Montel Barnes had 101 rushing yards on 13 carries. Noble tallied three tackles and two interceptions on the night.

WOODVILLE — The Wiklinson County Wildcats fell to 1-3 on the season as they lost to Prentiss.
