JONESVILLE, La. — Led by Rodney Lawson and DeVonante Scott, the Ferriday Trojans stunned the Block Bears 20-6 Friday night.
Lawson scored on a quarterback sneak in the first quarter to give Ferriday (1-1) a 6-0 lead. Then in the second quarter, the Trojans used the Wildcat formation to set up their next touchdown, a quarterback lead run by Scott. Lawson then connected with Alfred Brown on the two-point conversion pass to give them a 14-0 halftime lead.
“We played hard. We made a lot of mistakes mentally,” Ferriday head coach Freddie Harrison said. “Block played hard. Coach (Benny) Vault (Jr.) had them ready. It was a typical Ferriday-Block game.
In the third quarter, on an option play, Scott pitched the ball to Bobby Madison, who scored on a 10-yard run and Ferriday was ahead 20-0.
“We made some big plays and had some players who stepped up in crucial times,” Harrison said. “The offensive line played really well. They opened up some holes for us.
“We gang tackled well. Marques Lewis stepped up at linebacker. Nieceo Amado had an interception and made some tackles. Defensive line didn’t play one of their better games.”
Block (1-1) scored its only touchdown later on in the third quarter.
“Too many penalties and turnovers,” Vault said. “We couldn’t get the offense going. It was just a bad night.”
